John L.A. Lyddane is a senior partner and trial attorney at Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP. He focuses on the defense of technical personal injury and professional liability actions in state and federal trial courts. In his more than 30 years with the Firm, Mr. Lyddane has tried over 200 cases to verdict. He has represented corporate defendants, insurance carriers, product manufacturers, self-insured hospitals, universities, municipalities, the State of New York, and many individual physicians, attorneys, architects, and engineers. He has tried a wide variety of cases including attorney, hospital, and medical malpractice claims, product liability actions, commercial contract cases, and declaratory judgment actions. He has served as national claims counsel for two corporate suppliers of medical services, and managed the firm’s diethylstilbestrol litigation for more than 25 years. Mr. Lyddane has published and spoken publicly on various aspects of risk management, professional liability defense, and trial practice for universities, bar associations, and medical societies. Topics on which he has published include the evaluation of damages in personal injury actions, litigation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and professional liability of members of the clergy. Mr. Lyddane has also been selected by his peers to be included in "Best Lawyers in America®." He is AV® rated by Martindale-Hubbell® which is their highest rating.
