Prior to joining MCB, Kenya was Of Counsel to a leading New York area civil negligence defense firm, which specializes in medical malpractice and professional liability matters, among other practice areas. There, she successfully defended health care providers against assorted high exposure medical malpractice claims, while also representing clients in complex premises liability, construction site accident, and automobile accident cases. Her practice encompassed the full range of responsibilities associated with effective client defense, including developing legal strategy; conducting and analyzing legal research; preparing and producing witnesses for depositions; consulting with medical experts; drafting and arguing complex motions; attending court conferences; and preparing reports throughout all phases of litigation to keep concerned parties apprised of case status.

Prior to this position, Kenya served as an associate attorney and later as a partner with another New York area civil defense litigation firm specializing in medical malpractice defense. Beginning with responsibilities such as research, drafting a variety of legal documents, case analysis, and witness preparation, Kenya advanced to partner, managing high-value cases from inception through trial. Her expanded duties included conducting formal mediations and settlement negotiations; drafting appellate documents; and personally arguing cases in the Appellate Divisions of the First and Second Departments. Additionally, Kenya trained and supervised new and junior associates.

Earlier still, Kenya served as a law clerk and held a legal externship at a small law office in the New York area. She assisted attorneys with their client representation, prepared legal documents, and progressively developed the research, draftsmanship, and communications skills that would serve her so well in her future roles.

Kenya received her B.A., cum laude, from Spelman College, making Dean’s List and the Honor Roll during her undergraduate pursuit. She earned her J.D. from Touro University Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, where she served as Research Editor of the Suffolk Academy of Law and received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for Legal Methods.

She is admitted to practice in New York and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
